Mochas and Javas is a coffee shop in San Marcos, Texas, popular to many Texas State University students for its close location and diverse menu.

In 2003 owner Kevin Carswell had a steady job in an office, but he decided one day to quit his day job and do something he loved. He said he really enjoyed providing good customer service, which is when the idea of Mochas and Javas began.

The coffee shop is a small space, but many students say they enjoy it because it provides a study atmosphere for students who need somewhere to get away, relax, and focus.

Carswell instills the idea that excellent customer service is key to success to all his employees. Taylor Plemens, junior business major at Texas State, said she had never met such a warm staff who all seemed to really enjoy what they do.

“The location is great and everyone is really nice, and people come in every single day which makes it easy to get to know our regular customers,” said Emily Osborn, assistant manager at Mochas and Javas.

There are three different locations, but the most popular  one is on 700 North LBJ St. The location is the closest one to the university campus and near the bus loop where most students get dropped off.
Mochas and Javas like to hear everyone’s opinion on their  clients’ customer service and food experiences, and have a comment box by the register where people can leave positive or negative comments.

“We do a lot of special things for our customers like giving them an extra shot and trying out new baking specials because we really care about providing good customer service to our clients,” Osborn said.
