SAN MARCOS, TEXAS—Local coffee shop Mochas and Javas is a popular spot for Texas State students to unwind and study.

Located a short walk away from the N. LBJ bus loop Mochas and Javas offers a comfortable space for studying, relaxing or grabbing something to eat.

Rebecca Seeley, a recent graduate from Texas State, recalls the long hours she spent studying at Mochas and Javas. She said she would come in to grab some coffee and a snack.

“A large latte was my study drink, I’d stay up all night” Seeley said.

Seeley said she enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and friendly people. She said she liked it so much that she applied for a job and is now working as a barista.

“Everyone was always smiling and looked like they liked their jobs,” Seeley said. “Plus it was busy and I new I’d make money.”

Carissa James a ceramics studio major likes the lounge area with the oversized chairs and dim mood lighting. She said it’s the perfect spot to work out ideas for projects.

“It’s great when no one is here I can really focus on working in my sketchbook” James said.

Sophomore and Jazz studies major Darja Tomanovic likes the convenient location to the music building and that the calming environment offers a comfortable place to relax.

“The atmosphere is usually calm, it’s a great place to study and the people are so nice,” Tomanovic said. “I enjoy it every time, except when it’s too crowded to find a space.”

Mochas and Javas focus on friendly customer service and a comfortable atmosphere keeps students coming back.
